The International School of Ministry Background.
Community of Bethel Churches in Rwanda, C.E.B.R (Communauté des Eglises Bethel au Rwanda) is a local ministry which was founded in 1998 by Apostle François NKURUNZIZA and his wife Bishop Thérèse Umugiraneza. At the beginning of the ministry, the church experienced a mighty and massive revival especially among the young people.
The Timothy Group Bible School was created in 2000 as a solution to meet an urgent need to mentor and train all these new believers towards a stable and strong foundation in the scriptures for their future in the ministry. The first session, of Timothy Group for the year 2000/2001 was attended by forty five students who were selected from among the church members; and 2004/2005 was the second session. The syllabus covered were; Introduction to Bible Panorama, Introduction to Missiology, Introduction to Eschatology and Introduction to Homiletics.
The TGBS graduated trainees are currently serving at different levels of leadership in the ministry (Some as Bishops, Pastors, elders,…), some at C.E.B.R headquarters, others at various Bethel branches, and in other different churches within and outside the country. It was fully funded by the C.E.B.R however, due to diverse ministry responsibilities; it failed to financially sustain the school activities and shelved. Later, The Timothy Group Bible School would become the International School of Ministry (ISOM).
ISOM relevance and its Leadership Development Mission
The pillar of preparing future faithful stewards in Christian leadership; ISOM is a non-denominational school that is open to all believers and committed to identifying and developing individuals whom God has called and given leadership gifts and challenging them to become servant-leaders. We demonstrate our commitment by creating an environment in which men and women with ministry gifts are developed to serve as servant-leaders.
Equipping, empowering and releasing lay leaders through the International School of Ministry, to serve as ministry partners both inside and outside the local church, as well as planting healthy churches throughout their communities. Moreover, enabling the ministers to potentially fulfill their calling and pastoral tasks from the ministries under their leadership.
ISOM is a hands-on interactive experience that will help the participants apply biblical, theological, historical, and cultural understanding in the ministry, in their communities and at their workplace. Furthermore, apart from interactions on courses, trainees do fellowship in break tea and lunch time and hence take opportunity to exchange ideas thereby building up more fruitful acquaintances.
Fully funded by C.E.B.R, ISOM currently has 100 trainees for a period of one year; 2015/2016 intake. The classes take place at the C.E.B.R headquarters premises and they are held every Saturday from 9am through 3pm, with break tea, lunch and with teaching facilities inclusive.
Who attends and How
ISOM trains people from within the Community of Bethel Churches and others. Although the school receives other than C.E.B.R members; due to limited resources, it has been a challenge to sustain the training and with accepting a large number of the candidates from outside the ministry.
The trainees are full time pastors who are already active in church leadership, bi-vocational ministers (active both in church leadership and in society at different levels of leadership) and small group leaders of different departments at church. Normally, there are no training charges requested from the attendees due to their uncertain financial status. Moreover, due to financial challenges, the school is selective, but the perspectives look forward to broaden in the intakes to come.
Courses and trainers
Currently, ISOM has one qualified fulltime trainer, who lectures the selected theological topics and other related biblical principles along with discussions on diverse subjects to equipping and hence enabling God’s servants to proactively withstand the contemporary challenges. However, there are other trainers, who lecture once in awhile on invitation, depending on the topics on table.
The courses offered include Ecclesiology, Missiology, and Eschatology, Biblical panorama, Homiletics and Management of the ministry. There will be a follow up and continuous trainings to make sure the purpose is achieved
Lecturing is followed by questions, group discussions and sharing testimonies and pastoral experiences from different church services. Every student has a syllabus for each course and the trainer uses a projector and flip chart to disseminate the course content to the participants.
Graduation and certificates
At the end of the program, the trainees will be honored with a certificate of completion for having participated but also covered all the topics regarded.
ISOM envisages to building a firm 21st century apologetic framework of the servants of God; therefore, those willing to donate in support of this vital school of ministry, for the kingdom’s sake, are warmly welcomed and thus highly appreciated.
